The Southern Manitoba Academy for Response Training offers the Emergency Medical Responder training program. This is your start to the rewarding and exciting career you've been looking for.
Helping others needing emergency care is one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have. To become the most effective EMR possible, take our part-time Emergency Medical Responder training program.
Emergency Medical Responder training can also be an asset to those in industry, law enforcement, fire response, and other emergency care sectors.
Our EMR course also meets all requirements of the National Occupational Competency Profile for Emergency Medical Responders as set out by the Paramedic Association of Canada.
Course Information
The EMR course is approximately 160 hours in length. This is a combination of self-study, didactic, and practical lab training. There are four Section Evaluations, and one Final Exam.
Manitoba Health conducts an independent examination process for licensing if the EMR candidate wishes to work as an EMR for an Ambulance Service in Manitoba.
Potential EMR students must meet all admission requirements. There will be a limited number of seats available in each course.
Courses will be held at our training center which is located at #11 - 854 Marion Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The Emergency Medical Responder course consists of three sections:
Text Book and Workbook reading and completion. The text book and workbook material is issued at the time of registration and should be read / completed prior to the classroom portion. The time required to complete this component varies for each student.
Classroom Sessions. There are two options for the classroom sessions outlined below. Either the part time evening sessions or the very popular Blitz course. The classroom sessions focus on the EMR skills and a review of material read in the text.
Skills Sessions. S.M.A.R.T. provides ongoing skill sessions (see "Skill Sessions" tab to the left) for students to have sufficient time to practice and become proficient at their EMS skills. Again, each student will learn at a different pace and for our students, there is never a situtation of "not enough time to practice". Students are always welcome to the skills nights that take place approximately once per week.
